My Father-in-law came up to visit for a couple of days and didn’t need to get home real quick, so I talked him into going on a ride with me and exploring the lower trails near Dayton. There were a couple of downed trees and a few spots were a little greasy, but we had a good time and didn’t see anybody else out there.
I’m a few rides behind on the ol’ moto blog, so these next few reports may be lacking a little in detail, but be assured that good times were had!
Day 1: Warner Valley
Crew: Brock, Levi, Brandon, Kory, Russ and me.
The camera wasn’t adjusted very well so we didn’t get too much decent video, but the riding was a lot of fun. It was good to catch up wth my old buddy Kory and meet his friend Russ… look forward to riding with them again.
Day 2: Laverkin Falls
Crew: Brock, Levi, Brandon and me.
I think this is one of my favorite rides of all time. The riding was awesome, the views were amazing, and the waterfalls were very cool. The trail skirts some pretty big cliffs which look kind of sketchy in the video, but I don’t remember it being that scary in real life. I felt bad for dumping Brandon’s brand new KTM right in front of him on the greasy downhill, but the POV footage of Brandon hitting the tree was worth it 🙂
Day 3: Sand Hollow
More fun riding with some sand dunes mixed in.
Staying in Brandon’s family condo was awesome, the hot tub was a welcome site every night and the steak dinner we had at the Gun Barrel was the best steak I’ve ever had.
In regards to the last picture, we were on a perfectly legal trail, gotta love an ignorant with guns :/. Kinda unnerving to know some jerk was pointing a rifle at you.
With a high of 61° today, not a cloud in the sky, and realizing that my calendar was full until next week, I scrambled around to see if anybody wanted to hit the dirt for a little bit this afternoon. Fortunately, my old buddy, that I haven’t seen for years, was up for the adventure!
Crew: Chris and me
I guess I was a little too excited to hit the dirt… :/ *note the bfe-highway with no houses or anything around, what the heck was he doing out there?
Anyway, conditions were moist and delicious! Even hit little bits of snow on the north facing slopes. We started out from Weston canyon and rode the ridge line north until the sun set, then we dropped down and rode ATV and the Jeep trails back to the truck. It got dark enough that I got to use my light for the first time this year (love that little Stella!).
I had a good time and hope we have a few more of these days before the snow hits and forces us to go south for riding.
If you follow this blog and were wondering why there haven’t been any posts since August, it’s because I haven’t been riding… :/ The week after our big loop, my 8 yr. old son talked me into taking him to the local skateboard park. About 10 minutes into it I proved that I’m too old to be there and ended up smearing myself all over the pavement and ripping the MCL (inside knee ligament) in both my knees. So, for the past couple of months, I’ve been trying to take it easy and let my knees heal and tighten back up. With stage 1 & 2 tears, the doctor said to expect a 3 month recovery with therapy. It’s been tough not riding, I’ve been having such a fun year and can’t wait to get back to regular riding!
I went with the intention of taking it easy, but that’s hard to do when you’re trying to follow this crew. Needless to say, I was pretty sore the next day, but had a great time and am glad it turned out the way it did. I think this was the last ride out for Brock before his ACL surgery, get well soon B-Rock!
Crew: Chaz, Brock, Dane, Curtis, and me.
The boys and I had a day off from school and work, for parent-teachers conferences, so we decided to have it be our little holiday. We went for a moto down Richards Hollow, played at the school park for a little bit, and went bowling. Here’s a little video with some pics.
ps. If you’re wondering what that song that the boys can’t stop repeating, check this out.
