Sink Hollow to Fish Haven

Had a great ride and busted a few snow drifts. There are a couple of really big trees down in the middle of Sink Hollow that will need a chain saw. We went down Fish Haven until we reached the Jeep road, then turned around and come back up. Coming back from Fish Haven, we took the Old Logan road up around Pat’s Hollow, over the top and came out above Egan Basin, there was a bunch of snow up there too, but nothing we couldn’t get through. Sections in between the snow were already pretty dusty, we could use a rain storm already.

Crew: Zac, Lance and me.

*Forgot my GPSr this day, so no map of tracks.

Check out the video from Zac’s helmet (you may get better quality if you click to go to vimeo):

CVMX with the kids

I’ve taken the kids out to the Cache Valley MX track a couple of times this month. They’ve really enjoyed it and I think it’s helping them feel more comfortable on their bikes and it’s a pretty good deal @ $5/bike for all day. We went before noon on weekdays and pretty much had the place to ourselves.

Logan scared the crap out of me on his first loop around the big track. He’d watched the big boys go around a couple of times and figured he just needed to gun it over the jumps. I stood helpless as I watched him hit the gas on some steep 4′ jumps, catch air, land in the flat, bounce his helmet on the handle bars, recover, and do the same thing over the next 3 hits… I couldn’t believe he was able to hold on. When he came back around, I had calmed myself down and tactfully told him that maybe he should start on the smaller rollers… whew.

Landon’s little bike is still a handful for him and that backend loves to get away from him in the corners. I think I need to figure out how to adjust that clutch so the power isn’t so on or off. He did a lot better the second time out and only laid it over a couple of times.

Workout ride – Newton Dam

Rode with Chaz and Scott out at the Newton Dam track. It was a pretty good work out but I was right in the middle of a crappy pneumonia attack. The weather was pretty good when we got there, but turned rainy right when we started having problems with a flooded bike…

My bike started feeling pretty good on the whoops, I’m thinking I like this new suspension setup.

Can’t wait until the trails start opening up in the hills.

Hyrum Sod Farm, T-Boned

Went to ride the sod farm track tonight and we got T-Boned in Chaz’s truck pulling into the parking area, obviously we couldn’t let something like that spoil a night of riding, so after the police report and making sure the truck could drive away we put in about an hour session, it was fun. Sorry about your truck Chaz!

After watching Chaz and Lance hit one of the step-up jumps and making it look easy, I finally worked up enough courage to hit it, it took a few tries before I was able to start landing on top, but it was a rush. Here’s Chaz showing us how it’s done…

Hyrum Sod Farm Track

Went and rode this private track with some guys that know the steward of the land. It was an awesome workout and I was beat after just a couple of loops. Tracks certainly aren’t as much fun as riding trails to me, but I can see how working out on them could increase your skill and stamina to improve overall riding skills a ton.

You need to have permission to ride this track.

Here’s Chaz giving us a little air…
