Richards – Whites – Mt Logan with the kids

So, we watched that Animal Planet episode of “Finding Bigfoot” where they came to Logan canyon and talked to a bunch of people that have seen the elusive beast. The boys and I decided to go out on our own little hunt and I must admit, they have some pretty funny ideas of how a Sasquatch should howl… Full episode here

We had a fun ride down Richards a ways, back up Whites, then we just rode the roads to Mt. Logan for some good views and seat time.

2012 UTMA Ride – Sink Hollow – Snowslide – Davis – Highline

This ride ended up being an adventure.

Crew: Wes, Tony and me.

Sink Hollow was a blast as was the Highline over to Danish Pass, Snowslide and Davis.

We ate lunch at the boiler and nearly got struck by lightning, it was really close and very loud.

Then, the rain started. We hung out at Bloomington and hunkered down under the signs for a while as buckets of water fell from the sky. We made an attempt to get up to the Highline from Bloomington parking lot, but there was a tree down on a steep section and the trail was like riding on a few inches of high quality grease. So, we went back to Telegraph flat and made our way up the South Fork trail (still difficult) to the Highline. That’s when the problems really started for me, I had a new front tire that was just packing the mud, so much so that it was rubbing on the forks and acting like a front brake, despite my best efforts, I couldn’t get enough momentum to clean it out and kept sliding off the trail every 10 ft or so. By the time we got to the rockier sections where I could clean out, I was pretty beat. The ride back down the road from Danish pass was miserably cold, it was July, I didn’t pack anything heavier than a jersey.

I still had a good time, memories were made and a bad day of riding is always better than a good day of yard work!

Card – Steel – Cart – Seep – Richards

Had a great ride with Wally and Chickenhawk early in July. We did a whole circuit of trails including Card, Steel, Whites, Cart-Seep, etc. We had a lot of fun.

Caribou Forest

I’m not real familiar with the trail names over there, but I had some GPS tracks I had downloaded from the internet and talked Brandon and Keston to exploring the area with me. We had a great time checking out the riding there. Some of the trails are pretty faint and barely distinguishable from the game/cow trails, but it was beautiful.

There was one spot that we went through a gate. Brandon and Keston took off while I closed it back up. Well, they must have spooked a big badger out of it’s hole next to the trail. I looked up and the big guy was barreling down the trail directly at me! I jumped on the bike and started it up real quick and revved the engine and it turned off course up through the sage brush. That was the first time I’ve seen one that close in the wild, it was pretty cool!

The first night we did the south loop, the next day we did all the stuff north of our camp.

I’d really like to go back and spend a few more weekends out there, definitely did not see all there was to see.

I’m a couple weeks behind on some ride reports, still trying to get the video trimmed…

Tonight’s ride is so easy to post about, I thought I’d just throw it up here real quick. The batteries were dead in the GPS and the camera had so much dust behind the lens from last week’s ride that it was unusable. Also, I don’t have many details about tonight’s ride, Card was a little slick and there a a few big trees that will need a chainsaw to clean up. Conditions were awesome and we had a great ride. I got to meet a couple of guys and hopefully get to ride with them again!

Crew: Shane, Brock, Justin, Phill and me.

There’s talk of maybe trying to bust a Glady’s loop soon? Any rides for Memorial day?
